Let's talk about a workplace taboo: office politics.
Have you ever been in a situation where you worked hard and missed out on a promotion to someone who doesn't work as hard as you?
If so, you may be in the group of people who mistakenly assume that office politics is bad. As Dalia Feldheim says in her new book, Dare to Lead Like a Girl: "How to Survive and Thrive in the Corporate Jungle" (Rowman & Littlefield, June 2022), these people (and sadly most of them are women) always say: "I don't do politics. I do my work, and my work will speak for itself".
Well, things are not as simple as that in the workplace. The truth is that if you don't do office politics, office politics will do you. That's why you find so many incompetent and unethical men in politics.
It is time to shift your mindset and say this:
"Office politics is good. It's about strategically and smartly engaging others to get results and advance your career."
